We are Zach and Kelly Harris, in our mid-thirties located in Michigan. We have two young boys who are five and seven. Our first Bracco Italiano is our girl, Mia. We wanted a versatile dog and upon research came across this breed. We wanted a good bird hunting dog but a dog that is even better with our kids. After researching the breed and breeders we chose to buy from Lumpey’s Kennel in Wisconsin. My husband picked the breeder based on podcasts he listened too, there was a good hunting dog the podcast commented on frequently and this was going to be one of his liters. So, enters our first Bracco, Mia.
It takes quite a bit of work to really understand this breed. Everyone will tell you something different about what you need to do, look for, and consider. Some prefer tons of credentials from showing the dog or hunting certificates, and others focus on health and pedigree. We really surveyed breed owners on these two topics when we were looking for our second Bracco, Enzo. We wanted to take a combination of the two into consideration and happened to find di Witigenove in Czech Republic. The moment we saw Enzo we knew he was ours. It was clear he would be a large male with strong hunting abilities but what won us over was all the pictures of him in the breeds home with his kids. We quickly familiarized ourselves with ordering a dog from overseas and he became ours.
We know Enzo and Mia will make the perfect pairing someday. As we wait for Enzo to turn two and complete all of his health checks we are breeding Mia with Italian Woods, Uberto. Uberto’s pedigree and disposition are exactly what we would want in a dog and we are planning our first liter fall of 2024.
